Since the end of the year is almost here, I would suggest a pantry/fridge clean out.  Empty the entire fridge and clean the inside from top to bottom.  Wash the drawers, shelves and walls of the fridge.  Also vacuum the grill and as much as you can under the fridge.  Lots of dust collects there.  Look at your condiments, anything questionable toss (certainly if it is over 6 months old).  Clean out the pantry and toss any cans over 1 year old.  When you are ready to restock here is my must have basics list:

  • cream of mushroom soup or celery
  • cream of chicken soup
  • can or box of chicken and beef stock ( or vegetable)
  • dry onion soup mix (like liptons)
  • canned diced tomatoes ( 2-3)
  • can of rotel (diced tomatoes and chiles)
  • tomato paste
  • canned artichokes
  • canned olives
  • canned green chilies
  • canned kidney beans
  • canned black beans
  • canned white beans (great northern)
  • canned garbanzo beans
  • can of tuna/chicken
  • rice
  • pasta (usually I have 2 types, a shaped pasta and spaghetti)
  • jar of tomato sauce
  • can of evaporated milk
  • Baking items flour, sugar, brown sugar, powdered sugar, baking soda, baking powder

Basic Herbs and Spices:

  • kosher salt
  • cracked back pepper
  • garlic powder
  • oregano
  • basil
  • paprika
  • red pepper (cayenne)
  • cumin
  • cinnamon
  • nutmeg
  • rosemary
  • sage
  • thyme
  • parsley
  • onion powder
  • chili powder
  • vanilla extract
  • ginger
  • mustard

Tis the season for cleaning!
