This is about food.  Your food.  My food.  The food I feed my kids.   Our food.

(A warning: ignorance is truly bliss, and this is scary, maddening stuff)

Do you know where your food comes from?  No, not just the grocery store.  Where does it come from?  Who grows it?  How do they grow it?

Have you heard of Monsanto?

Monsanto sells seeds to farmers.  Not just any seeds.  A lot of “biotechnology”, genetically modified seeds.

From their webpage:

Three days ago there was a March against Monsanto across the U.S.

Protesters rallied in dozens of cities Saturday as part of a global protest against seed giant Monsanto and the genetically modified food it produces, organizers said.

Organizers said “March Against Monsanto” protests were held in 52 countries and 436 cities, including Los Angeles where demonstrators waved signs that read “Real Food 4 Real People” and “Label GMOs, It’s Our Right to Know.”

Monsanto is well-known for developing an herbicide glyphosate (aka Roundup).  Monsanto created GM seeds specifically to withstand Roundup, making a farmer’s crop production more successful.  Roundup is now the most widely-used herbicide in the United States.

Monsanto’s genetically modified Roundup Ready crops include soy, maize (corn), sorghum, canola, alfalfa, and cotton.  These crops are used in numerous foods and materials we use every day, which are sprayed down with the Roundup mixture.

While the United States Environmental Protection Agency‎ (EPA) considers glyphosate on its own to be relatively low in toxicity, and lacking carcinogenic effects, a study has shown that Roundup formulations and metabolic products can cause the death of human embryonic, placental, and umbilical cells in vitro, even at low concentrations.

If the food I buy and eat has been genetically modified, I’d like to know.  I would prefer natural, unmessed with, untampered with food.  NO FRANKENFOOD please.

Why, you ask?  Why fuss?

Crones disease, food allergies, leaky gut, IBS are on the rise.  I can’t prove to you that GMO’s are the cause, but I believe that what we are ingesting manifests in the body’s chemical reactions.  GMO’s were banned in Europe, until they passed mandatory labeling.  I won’t go into my conspiracy theories, but I do feel deceived.

Have you noticed that tomatoes don’t taste like tomatoes any more?  Did you know we have lost most wheat strains and now are down to only 2?  The farm to table concept has gone out the door and now its about quantity, and mass production.

Read Lables!   Some companies will label that they are GMO free.  Carry the list of Monsanto supplied companies.  Try to buy organic.  Look for heirloom varieties.  Be educated.
